3/read daily newspapers (The Huffington Post, The Daily Mail, The Independent, The Guardian)

4/be a reader of readers

5/use more than two grammar books (get every new handbook one finds out): Michael Swan, How English works (Oxford U.P); Nigel Barnsley, Business Elements (Mc Graw Hill)

6/fancy literature a lot

7/use dictionaries

8/get blocs & pens to take notes

8/practise pronunciation through phonetics theory and practice

9/ be good at your subject matter (specific topics of business, English grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, writing)

10/use specific points or anecdotes to make your classes attractive (magazines, exercises, newspapers, flashcards)

How to read a reader

  1. get the reader and a dictionary with you (smartphones are also welcome)

  2. prepare a bloc or notepad, a pencil to underline words you don ́t know
  3. relax and start by having a look at the title and the author of the reader
  4. copy the tittle and the author in your bloc
  1. read some information about the author and the story (@Wikipedia or any other Encyclopedia)
  2. do not try to read 40 pages in a day, but read little by little, chapter after chapter, page after page. Make a note of what you read [copy page number and one or two ideas]
  3. it is impossible to read a book without looking up for the meanings of unknown words (verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, connectors). YOU WILL HAVE TO USE A DICTIONARY!
  4. most readers provide a glossary of words (mini-dictionary of difficult expressions) Look for that glossary!
  5. understand what you read
  6. keep a diary of your reading in order to remember the plot of the story.
  7. focus on grammar and vocabulary
  8. enjoy your readings

I can´t say exactly how or why but what I see is that I enjoyed the reading of “Thinks…” I read this novel in English language but there is a Spanish version in Anagrama group “Pensamientos secretos”. I think I loved this David Lodge´s  story because of its interesting plot (a donjuan in his forties obsessed with women and stream consciousness) and also because I dedicated time to think about the pages I had read and went for a relaxing walk after my reading with a woman afterwards.

Now I know I am a lodger; a Lodge freak, I mean
