Today I want to celebrate “Poem in Your Pocket Day” as @eNotes reminds poetry addicts on Twitter.

(April is not the cruellest month, Mr Eliot)

The following poem is number 20 in a poem book written by the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. Maybe, these verses are the most recited ones by Spanish speakers.

 

“Puedo escribir los versos más tristes esta noche.

Escribir, por ejemplo: “La noche está estrellada,
y tiritan, azules, los astros, a lo lejos.”

El viento de la noche gira en el cielo y canta.

Puedo escribir los versos más tristes esta noche.
Yo la quise, y a veces ella también me quiso.” (…)
